Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville congratulated Liverpool on a terrific season after missing out on the Premier League by one point
Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa took a 2-0 lead over City through a Matty Cash header and a wonderful Philippe Coutinho finish to give Jurgen Klopp's side hope of winning the title. But three goals in five second-half minutes turned the tide at the Etihad Stadium as City held on to reclaim the league.
Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson put Liverpool ahead 3-1 on the day, after Sadio Mane had cancelled out Pedro Neto's early opener, but the win at Anfield was in vain as Liverpool needed Villa to do them a favour and take points off City. Neville was on Sky Sports commentary duty on the City game and after the final whistle commentated on not just the drama on Sunday but the season as a whole.
LFC RATINGS: Alisson excellent and Thiago immense against Wolves
AS IT HAPPENED: Liverpool 3-1 Wolves goals and highlights
INJURY SCARE: Thiago suffers injury in Liverpool win over Wolves
"Incredible football season," Neville told Sky Sports. "Congratulations Man City, congratulations Liverpool. Head-to-head all the way through, relentless, brilliant.
"You won't get many better Premier League seasons than that. A hell of a title race. Man City... For 75 minutes you couldn’t believe what you were witnessing in the stadium, it felt like it was over but suddenly they pulled three goals out of the hat."
Liverpool now begin preparations for Saturday's UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid in Paris, as they look to cap off the campaign with their third cup of the season after already clinching the Carabao Cup in February and the FA Cup last weekend.
They may be without key midfielder Thiago who hobbled off at half-time with an injury.
