Gary Neville sends angry message to Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Liverpool clash

Gary Neville has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of next Monday's Premier League clash with Liverpool, telling the Portuguese forward to 'stand up' and take responsibility in a blunt message.

This comes after the United star addressed his future on Instagram, promising to reveal the 'truth' in a couple of weeks as he continues to be linked with an exit from the club. Having missed the club's pre-season tour due to personal reasons, uncertainty continued to grow as he was left out of the club's starting-eleven to face Brighton on the opening weekend of the season.

Latest reports have suggested the Red Devils are now open to offloading the 37-year-old, though finding a potential suitor is not anticipated to be an easy task given his huge wage demands.

Ronaldo was seen walking off the pitch without acknowledging Erik ten Hag after United's shocking 4-0 defeat to Brentford last weekend and was visibly frustrated with the rest of his team-mates as the Bees took control of the contest.

Now offering another hint online there could be a twist to come in the ongoing saga over his position at United, Ronaldo's cryptic message has infuriated Neville as further noise is created from inside the Red Devils' camp ahead of a huge match with Liverpool.

Taking to Twitter, the Sky Sports pundit said: "Why does the greatest player of all time (in my opinion) have to wait two weeks to tell Manchester United fans the truth? Stand up now and speak. The club is in crisis and it needs leaders to lead. He’s the only one who can grab this situation by the scruff of the neck!"

Ronaldo featured in the 5-0 home defeat to Jurgen Klopp's side last season and lost his temper during proceedings, kicking out at Curtis Jones and receiving a yellow card as a result.
