Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville says the club must add a goalkeeper and a striker to their ranks this summer to avoid the risk of "massively struggling".
United manager Erik ten Hag has grand ambitions to strengthen his squad in this summer's transfer window ahead of the start of the 2023/24 campaign. He has made signing a world-class striker his main objective and has identified Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane as his top target to solve the Reds' goalscoring woes.
United were far too reliant on Marcus Rashford's contributions in front of goal this season, meaning they must source a new goal-getter to ease the pressure on the England international. Kane is one of six strikers the Reds are understood to be keeping a close eye on.
As well as needing to draft in a striker, Neville also believes the Reds must bring in a new goalkeeper. David de Gea, despite winning the Premier League's Golden Glove this season, faced regular criticism towards the end of the campaign, meaning many supporters hope the club will draft in a new first-choice shot-stopper.

"You have got to start with a centre-forward and a goalkeeper," Neville told the Metro. "If you don't have those two positions fixed in a football team you are massively struggling.
"United are massively struggling particularly up front but it has come to the time where they have to get a top goalkeeper. That FA Cup final said it to us all. I don't like mentioning it too much but the second goal shouldn't have gone in the back of the net.
"The reality of it is, David de Gea has had a great career at United, he has been a fantastic goalkeeper. But now is the time for him to be challenged and get someone in to be that No.1."
As well as insisting United must bring in both a goalkeeper and a striker this summer, Neville also wants to see the club strengthen their midfield options. Chelsea ace Mason Mount has been identified as a target and United have already agreed personal terms with him.
Neville added: "You can look at midfield as well. There is a problem where they have got two players who have got legs who aren't good enough on the ball and two good enough on the ball who haven't got the legs.
"I still think the composition of that midfield is not right so they need to sort that out. You can have one player who maybe can't get about but he [Ten Hag] wants to play through the midfield with technical players and he can't do that with the players that he's got there."
