Gary Neville revisits Man City title chances after defeat against Liverpool

Gary Neville is still backing Manchester City to win the title this season and defend their crown despite the defeat they suffered at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The defeat is City 's first of the season and came in a thrilling match where both sides played at full throttle in a raucous atmosphere at Anfield with the two sides having developed an intense rivalry in recent years. The winner was scored in the 76th minute, with Mohamed Salah beating Ederson in a one-on-one.

City were denied a goal earlier on in the game, with VAR ruling that Erling Haaland had committed a foul on Fabinho in the build-up, this incident sparked that match into life. It was only Liverpool's third win of the season and leaves City level on points with Spurs, three points behind Arsenal and ten points ahead of Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

However, despite the huge result for Liverpool, former Manchester United man and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says that the title is still likely to be heading to the blue half of Manchester by May.

He explained: "I still think they will [run away with it], I still think they will and today won’t change it, this was a freak game playing at Anfield. For City, it’s the most difficult game they have, I do think City will run away with it, Arsenal will come back towards Tottenham, Chelsea, United, Newcastle, I do think City will go away. This season will be a different season as well, post-World Cup could be completely different to what it is."

His views were echoed by fellow pundit and Premier League winner at City, Micah Richards, who said that City's superior squad depth would see them secure a fifth league win for Pep Guardiola in Manchester.

"Arsenal have been brilliant, you always expect them to drop off but this season, they’re different. The energy, over the course of the season if they get injuries. The difference between City and Arsenal is City get a few injuries they play the same way. If they lose Jesus, Zinchenko - to a degree - Thomas Partey, all of a sudden they become a different team. As they are now they’re on a good run."
