Gary Neville responds to Arsenal ban petition after Manchester United game

Gary Neville has promised to sign a petition banning him from commentating on Arsenal games.

Neville was on co-commentary duty for Sunday's 3-2 defeat to the Gunners at the Emirates. A dramatic affair saw Erik ten Hag's side take the lead through Marcus Rashford before goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka turned the tide. United levelled through Lisandro Martinez but the away side were left gutted when Nketiah poked home a 90th-minute winner.

The former United right-back was characteristically opinionated during Sky Sports' live coverage, dubbing Mikel Arteta a 'madman' after he was booked for dissent.

Arsenal fans were far from impressed with what they considered a lack of impartiality, with one tweet reading: “Like this tweet if you would sign a petition to have @GNev2 banned from commentating on Arsenal games."

Neville quoted the original tweet, adding: “I will sign it! Thought I was fair yesterday as well” alongside a crying laughing emoji.

A petition is yet to be set up, although the tweet has been viewed by more than one million people.

While the 47-year-old and Martin Tyler were recording his podcast after the match, a group of Arsenal fans seemed to catch the attention, with Neville in a typically mischievous mood.

"I think there's some Arsenal fans having a little bit of a pop," said Neville before turning around to speak to the fans. "You alright, lads? Are Arsenal going to win the league? I don't think you will! But that's life! But you're having a great season, well done."
