Gary Neville praises Newcastle's resilience in 'proud' draw against Arsenal

Gary Neville says Newcastle United fans can be 'proud' of their performance after holding league leaders Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal dropped points at home in the Premier League for the first time this season, and also failed to score for the first time in a league game since Newcastle's 2-0 win over the Gunners in May 2022.

Nick Pope also set a club record by registering a sixth straight clean sheet in all competitions. The Magpies currently boast the best defensive record in the Premier League, with just 11 goals conceded, while Pope has kept a league-high 10 shutouts.

Newcastle have gone an astonishing 1,045 minutes without conceding and former Manchester United and England right-back Neville has praised their 'resilience' to combat Arsenal's electrifying attack.

"The story of this game is Newcastle’s resilience in combating this electric Arsenal attack, who in the end just didn’t really have the answers, couldn’t break them down, and didn’t have the options from the bench for Mikel Arteta to change the flow of the game," Neville told Sky Sports.

"It became a scrappy game, a scruffy game, there was multiple bookings, but those Newcastle fans in the corner can be proud.

"I don’t think Arsenal played badly but I think that will give Mikel Arteta a sense of where they’re going to be at if they get into these tight games against teams at the top of the league - they’re just going to need that little bit more."
