Gary Neville outlines the role Leeds United will have in the Premier League title race

Gary Neville has outlined the role Leeds United could have in the Premier League title race as Liverpool and Manchester City battle it out to lift the top-flight trophy. The two sides drew 2-2 at the Ethiad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus scoring for the hosts, while goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane ensured the game would finish level.

It was a fascinating spectacle but the result meant there is still just a point between the pair heading into the final seven matches of the season. City were, at one point, 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League and looking all but set to lift their fourth title in five years.

However, Liverpool have fought back superbly and are currently the most in-form team in the division, having won nine of their last 10 league games. It is a run that has left the title race eagerly poised, with both teams facing difficult-looking fixture runs.

Jurgen Klopp's side have to play Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves all before May 22. Meanwhile, City also have some tough games and Neville believes that clashes such as against Leeds will be tough for City given the situation at Elland Road.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, he said: "In the cup competitions, anything could happen. In the Premier League, we've looked at City and thought that’s an easy run-in but actually, that's because we're looking at (Liverpool's games) Merseyside derby and Manchester United.

"In an ordinary season, those games would be tough, but those two teams are appalling, they could be easier than any of the teams Manchester City have got. Watford are fighting for their lives, Leeds have to win games, and Newcastle away (for Liverpool)."
