Gary Neville makes Chelsea priority for Mauricio Pochettino clear and it's not signing a striker

Chelsea drew another blank on Sunday afternoon as they lost 1-0 to Manchester City despite having 13 shots, with six of those being on target. Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling started the game with Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, Carney Chukwuemeka and Christian Pulisic all brought on to try and help the Blues find the back of the net.

Against his former club, Sterling went close on numerous occasions with Conor Gallagher also hitting the post and Mudryk blazing over late on. Clear struggles in scoring goals means that signing a natural striker is expected to be high on the summer wish list for Mauricio Pochettino, who has agreed a deal to be Chelsea's next manager, football.london understands.

Chelsea are interested in Victor Osimhen but Napoli are adamant he will not be leaving the club this summer, whatever the offer, a source has told football.london; however Chelsea are not being put off by the club's stubborn stance. Given his links to Pochettino, Tottenham forward Harry Kane has also been linked with a Stamford Bridge switch, although Spurs chairman Daniel Levy selling his star asset to a direct rivals is unfathomable.

Lautaro Martinez, Goncalo Ramos and Dusan Vlahovic have also been discussed as options, with the latter said to be the recipient of a £70million offer from west London, according to a new report. The Blues have scored just 36 goals in as many league games with no player yet to break into double figures as Sterling and Havertz both sit on 9.

Despite the profligacy in front of goal which was perfectly summed up in defeat to the champions, Gary Neville has made it clear what he thinks must be the priority for Pochettino ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Speaking during the clash with City, he said: "I think he needs to change these players' mentality from where it has been for the last few months and hope the break they get in the summer gives them a rest mentally to come back fresh with new ideas, a new manager."
