Gary Neville has sarcastically hit back at Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese veteran launched a blistering attack on his former Manchester United teammate this week.
Several clips of Ronaldo's brutally honest interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV have already gone viral ahead of the full release, which is due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
In the interview, which was released as the Premier League paused for the World Cup, Ronaldo took aim at a number of high-profile figures at Old Trafford - including current boss Erik ten Hag, the Glazer family and a whole host of the 37-year-old's former teammates.
And Neville - who has been critical of Ronaldo in the wake of his poor conduct this season - was one of the people in the firing line; with Ronaldo claiming that the former England right-back has been using his name for fame.
He told Talk TV: "It's hard to listen [to] that kind of criticism and negative about people who play with you, for example, Gary Neville, as well. I think they take advantage of that [his profile] because they are not stupid. I'm the number one followed guy in the world. It's not by coincidence."
He continued: "To listen as ex-colleagues or team-mates criticise you when they only see one point of view. It's easy. It's easy to criticise, I don't know if you have a job in television that they must criticise to be more famous. I really don't understand it. It's hard when you see people who was in the dressing room with you criticising that way."

Ronaldo went on to claim that Neville was not his friend and that he would never go for dinner with the ex-United full-back. And Neville has now appeared to respond to his former Old Trafford colleague with a mischievous tweet.
The former England star took to Twitter on Tuesday morning and quipped: "Anyone for dinner?"
Neville's response comes just hours after a clip of Ronaldo's awkward reunion with Manchester United and Portugal teammate Bruno Fernandes went viral.
Fernandes walked past his United teammate as the Portuguese national team met up ahead of the World Cup and even appeared to ignore a handshake from Ronaldo before reneging and engaging in a brief exchange with the veteran.
Mirror Football understands that the club are considering all their options following Ronaldo's bombshell interview and are even ready to sack the five-time Ballon d'Or winner as a result of his damning comments.
The club are believed to be taking legal but they did issue a statement on Monday acknowledging Ronaldo's comments in the 90-minute interview.
