Reports are suggesting Manchester United could be interested in signing Denzel Dumfries this summer – although Gary Neville will be hoping the rumours turn out to be false.
Recent reports have claimed United have been given the green light to sign Dumfries this summer as Erik ten Hag targets a new right-back. The United boss has already made Jurrien Timber his defensive priority, with the Ajax star able to play both centrally and on the right, but Dumfries’ signing could potentially free Timber up to play in his natural position.
The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that Inter Milan are willing to sell Dumfries, and will accept a bid in the region of £26million from United. The Italian side only signed the Netherlands international on a four-year deal last summer.

Further reports from Goal suggest Ten Hag is considering the 26-year-old, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future in doubt after a disappointing season. However, former United captain Neville is not convinced Dumfries should be on Ten Hag’s wish list.
The former right-back gave a scathing review of Dumfries while watching him in action for the Netherlands against England back in 2019. Although the Dutch got the better of Gareth Southgate’s side on that occasion in the Nations League semi-finals, Neville was not impressed with United’s reported target.
“He’s not a defender, at all," Neville said, while on punditry duty for Sky Sports. “From the first minute, everything has looked off.”
Despite Neville’s concerns, Dumfries has continued to feature regularly at right-back for his national side and Inter, although he can also play as a right winger. With Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot having both been criticised over the past 12 months, Dumfries could still provide a solution to United’s problems down the right.
