Gary Neville fumes at Jamie Carragher for defending the Glazers: "Know your subject"

Gary Neville has been left fuming at fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher after the Liverpool legend appeared to defend the Glazers.

The American family currently own Manchester United, where Neville spent the entirety of his career. But amid massive supporter unrest, they are engaged in a potential takeover process, though that has stalled since a third deadline for bids passed just over a fortnight ago.

There are two main frontrunners to buy out the Glazers, with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani battling Sir Jim Ratcliffe for control. But there has been little sign of progress in recent days, with Mirror Football reporting the club is in chaos.

The ongoing saga around the ownership has provided the backdrop to a difficult three weeks for Erik ten Hag's side. They lost their second successive game at West Ham on Sunday, with David de Gea's howler allowing Said Benrahma to score the winner in the first half.

But rather than De Gea, or in fact any of Ten Hag's players, former Red Devils skipper Neville pointed the finger of blame at the Glazers. Neville insisted that their decision to slow down the takeover process is negatively impacting the club.

"United so poor in this game. ETH seeing more of the players in these situations is a positive. Allows him to sort out who he wants on the bus. The real disgrace are the Glazers. Are they waiting for the last game at OT to pass??? It would be typical of them," he tweeted.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Who should be blamed for Manchester United's recent poor form? Comment below.

"Weak and shirking accountability and responsibility to the end! Members of staff on and off the pitch are in an uncertain position waiting for new owners! Let alone recruitment and what budget their is going to be! This should have been done! Classless to the end!"

Carragher though refused to accept that blame could be pinned on the Glazers for the problems with Ten Hag's squad. Instead, he highlighted the Dutchman's decision to use Wout Weghorst as a No 10, spent £90million on flop Antony and hand 31-year-old Casemiro a five-year deal.

In a mocking tone, the Liverpool legend quote-tweeted Neville's post to write: "Yeah the Glazers decided to play Weghorst as a 10, spend 90M on Antony & 70M on Casemiro (31) on a 5 yr deal!!"

Carragher's intervention left Neville furious though, with the United legend hitting back at his fellow pundit. Neville insisted that the Glazers' decisions had led to Ten Hag being forced into making compromises in the transfer market.

"Come on know your subject. They told ETH (when he needed a striker with CR7 going) he couldn’t spend any money," Neville fumed.

"They sanctioned those other two deals after Brentford 4-0 to save their backsides as they were under pressure. They sign the cheques and take responsibility for everything post-SAF! They're a shambles!"
