Gary Neville explains his chat with two Leeds United players about Jesse Marsch

Gary Neville has explained that chat he had with two unnamed Leeds United players during their 3-2 comeback win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out. The former Manchester United right-back claimed that he spoke to them about Jesse Marsch and the impact he has had on the dressing room so far.

Back-to-back victories have lifted the Whites seven points clear of the relegation zone and it has given them a much better chance of staying in the Premier League. Leeds secured a 2-1 success over Norwich City, before beating Wolves in a five-goal thriller just before the international break.

Following the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa last month, many Leeds supporters felt the club had made the wrong decision to replace him with Marsch. However, the American has managed to pick up six points from his opening four matches and the Whites are seemingly looking a much more organised outfit under his stewardship.

Marsch came to the Whites having previously managed Red Bull Salzburg and Red Bull Leipzig, where he guided the former to two Austrian Bundesliga titles. And Neville has opened up about what a Leeds player told him at Molineux and admitted he is surprised with this.

He told The Overlap: "The first time I spoke to him at the Wolves game, you can tell he's good with the media in terms that he comes out, he's energetic, he wants to do it. That side of it he's a dream, but I spoke to a couple of the Leeds lads, I know one of them reasonably well and I said what's he like.

"He said that he is 'really impressive, training sessions are fantastic'. I wasn't expecting that answer from those two Leeds lads who I spoke to because they were so Bielsa mad and what he had done there.

"Bielsa was such a favourite of those players and they were deeply upset when they left. They actually spoke really well of him and they wouldn't have done that if they didn't think that. I probably wouldn't have said it if they hadn't have done."

Jamie Carragher added: "I like him (Marsch), he looks like he's got real big energy. He's going to get ridiculed because he is American. That seems to happen when someone comes into the Premier League.

"He was supposedly criticised by some of the players. But he has got a bit of energy about him. The thing he did at Leicester after the game on the pitch, that's one of those things that some people really like or they don't, so you sort of split people by doing things like that on the pitch at the end of the game. I think he has got something about them, you saw the team talk he did at Anfield when they played against Liverpool, they played really well in a Champions League game.

"(Erling) Haaland was in his team at the time and I think he has got something about him. I think he will keep them up and will do all right."
