Gary Neville has named four positions Manchester United should target in the summer transfer window following their drab 3-0 defeat against Sevilla on Thursday.
The Red Devils crashed out of the Europa League with a 5-2 defeat on aggregate as United were comfortably beaten in the second leg in Spain. It was a disappointing performance from Erik ten Hag's side and showed the Dutchman still has plenty of work to do at the end of the season.
A number of players have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Victor Osimhen and Moises Caicedo, and it could be a busy window ahead for Ten Hag and United. The Red Devils spent around £250million on new players last summer and there may be another similar spending spree this time around.
With that in mind, Neville has listed four areas United should pinpoint first. The first position he named is the goalkeeper, with David de Gea's contract set to run out this summer. Although it has been reported that the Spaniard will sign a new deal, Ten Hag is likely to still sign a new shot-stopper.
Jack Butland is expected to return to Crystal Palace at the end of his loan spell, meaning Tom Heaton is the only senior 'keeper set to be at United next season with De Gea's contract up. Brentford's David Raya has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, while Gregor Kobel and Djordje Petrovic are amongst the others to have been rumoured with the Red Devils.
The second area Neville pointed out in a Q&A with fans on Twitter was the centre-back berth. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have been United's first-choice centre-back pairing this season, but with the duo now both injured, Ten Hag has had to rely on Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
Maguire's early mistake proved costly against Sevilla, while Lindelof didn't cover himself in glory for Loic Bade's strike in Seville. Ten Hag could dip into the market for a new centre-back with Napoli's Kim Min-jae and Axel Disasi tipped to make the switch to Manchester, while he may come back in for Jurrien Timber.
However, United's priority position to target is undoubtedly going to be up front. Wout Weghorst came in as a short-term solution in January following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, but Ten Hag is expected to add a permanent no.9 in the summer to support Anthony Martial.
Harry Kane has emerged as a potential target for the Red Devils, with the 29-year-old heading into the final 12 months of his Tottenham contract. The forward would be an astute addition to the Red Devils' front line, having scored 23 Premier League goals so far this season.
Napoli talisman Osimhen has also been excellent in 2022/23 and could be set for a big-money move in the summer, with United one of those reportedly keen. Lautaro Martinez, Goncalo Ramos and Marcus Thuram are amongst the others linked - and Neville believes United must sign a new centre forward.
The last area, meanwhile, that Neville said United should target may surprise some fans. Despite having Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that position, Neville wants the Red Devils to add a right-back in the summer, with Denzel Dumfries amongst those in the running.
