Gary Neville doubles down on Todd Boehly and Chelsea criticism with Man Utd dig at John Terry

Gary Neville has taken a tongue-in-cheek dig at Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly after the Blues were beaten 2-1 at Southampton on Tuesday evening. Thomas Tuchel's side threw away a one-goal lead down on the south coast as the Saints outfought the west Londoners on the night.

Raheem Sterling handed Chelsea a 1-0 lead in the first-half but goals from Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong before the break ensured Southampton led 2-1 at half-time. That's the way it stayed at St. Mary's in what was a thoroughly disappointing display from Chelsea.

With transfer deadline day tomorrow [Thursday], it's set to be a really busy period for Chelsea. The Blues have already brought in five new signings this summer – which is set to become six with the imminent announcement of Wesley Fofana – but Boehly is not done there.

The American businessman, who is also acting as the interim sporting director at Stamford Bridge following the departure of Marina Granovskaia earlier in the summer, is looking to bring in at least two more players before the deadline. This is something that was recently criticised by Neville, who took aim at the club's lack of transfer strategy.

The former Manchester United defender said on Sky Bet’s The Overlap: "The American guy Boehly, looks like he wants to play Football Manager. He's wandering around a little bit and they're a bit panicky now. They're almost like bouncing around because it feels like he has to do something.

"You're wondering, 'Oh they're coming in for [Frenkie] De Jong this morning', because it feels like he has to do something, that pressure is on him. He wouldn't have had that pressure if he'd have kept the people that have been there before and just let them operate for a year or two. I'm hearing his name too much."

Now, Neville has doubled down on his criticism of Boehly in a Twitter reply to former Chelsea captain John Terry. The former Blues skipper tweeted: "I hate seeing us get beat.

"Southampton were very good, but we look very unbalanced at the minute. I can't wait for the window to close and get our settled squad, team and formation. We miss Reece [James] so much when he doesn't play. 22 years old and a future captain in my opinion."

Neville replied: "Your man Todd Woodward [referencing former Manchester United chief Ed Woodward] needs to stop wandering round like a kid in a sweet shop!"
