Gary Neville doubles down on FSG stance as Liverpool transfer claim made

Gary Neville has doubled down on his claims that Jurgen Klopp needs to be significantly supported in the upcoming transfer window by Liverpool owners FSG.

A busy summer is in the offing at Anfield as the Reds are set to bid farewell to a number of players within the ranks including a host of midfielders departing. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are all out of contract in L4 this summer and are all set to move on at the end of the campaign.

Alexis Mac Allister, Mason Mount and Ryan Gravenberch are among the targets from the Reds recruitment chiefs ahead of an influx of additions. Liverpool are looking to move quickly past this seasons campaign as they've fell below recent expectations despite being within a chance of top-four qualification.

Neville has been outspoken in his thoughts on the ownership situation and has reiterated the notion that the German boss must receive financial backing.

"Jurgen Klopp has got to be supported," he told The Gary Neville podcast. "He was supported when they fell short by being able to push themselves in the transfer market, they'll have to go there again this summer.

"Other teams are going to invest, Klopp's strength over the last six or seven years has been the quality of football but also the strength of recruitment, he's been able to get the most out of players, who ultimately haven't cost stupid amounts, Van Dijk, Allison and Nunez aside.

"You look at those £20m, £30m signings, Jota, Salah, Mane, there are more of them, Robertson at left-back, they've been outstanding. They've been wonderful for Liverpool.

"They're going to have to do a bit of that, but also go and I think put some serious money down and get one or two serious players for Klopp."
