Gary Neville delivers Leeds United Premier League relegation verdict with new financial warning

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes Leeds United will go down despite the Whites managing to climb out of the relegation zone following their 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. Pascal Struijk's stoppage-time equaliser against Brighton saw Leeds pick up a potentially season saving point, which pulled them above Burnley in the Premier League table.

With a game to go, Leeds sit on 35 points in 17th place. Burnley are back in the bottom three after they lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend but they do still have a game in hand on the Whites.

They face Aston Villa in midweek, meaning that if they win their final two games, they will be safe. Everton, who sit a point higher than Leeds in 16th also have a game in hand against Crystal Palace on Thursday. Should they win that, they will be safe too.

However, should Burnley lose against Aston Villa, then Leeds know that a win on the final day of the season against Brentford will keep them up regardless of whether the Clarets beat Newcastle at Turf Moor.

But despite Leeds still having a fighting chance of Premier League survival, ex-England international and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville reckons the Whites are the favourites to go down.

“I think Leeds are going to go down, by the way,” said Neville. "I think they are going to get caught. I might be wrong but I think they're in big trouble. I think they're in big trouble Leeds and I think financially, they will be under huge stress if they go down.

"Most teams are when they go down out of the Premier League because of that huge gap that exists between the money in the Premier League and in the Championship.

“But I think Leeds, I never thought this could happen to them, they have got a massive week, as have Burnley and Everton as well but I think they'll get out of it Everton and Burnley. I think Leeds are in huge trouble but we'll see what happens in the coming days."
