Gary Neville delivers damning Manchester United verdict after candid Scott McTominay interview

Gary Neville has admitted his worry for Manchester United after Scott McTominay's honest interview in the wake of the defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

The midfielder was brutal in his reflection as Mikel Arteta's side inflicted further damage on United's Champions League hopes. "Going out on the pitch and showing a bit of b**** with our performances, not shying away from the ball," was one of the things the Scotland international demanded of his teammates.

The defeat leaves United six points off the top four with their hopes of qualifying now all but over. Cristiano Ronaldo pulled a goal back for the visitors after Arsenal had raced into a two-goal lead before Bruno Fernandes squandered a chance to equalise from the penalty spot.

After the previous weekend's results had pulled United back into the Champions League conversation, they were left to feel hard done by in the capital with Ronaldo marginally offside for his second of the afternoon as well as a handball by Cedric Soares in the area which wasn't given. McTominay's comments reaffirmed Neville's concerns.

Neville tweeted: "The McTominay comments yesterday. "Problems with players, staff, higher up and everything" whilst not something we didn’t know tells you how bad it must be for a player to say it on air."

Neville has been outspoken in his criticism of United this season as they failed to build on their second-place finish last season. The club are set to embark on a major rebuild this summer, with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag announced as the man who will lead them into next season.
