Gary Neville ‘cried off’ from MNF appearance as Jamie Carragher asks key Arsenal question

This past weekend could certainly be described as a brilliant one for Arsenal.

Not only did the Gunners show incredible Premier League title resolve to complete an unbelievable comeback against Bournemouth, but some of their fiercest rivals were also on the end of embarrassing defeats. For the second time in four days, Tottenham lost by a singular goal firmly denting their hopes of a top four finish.

The following day Manchester United were set for a decisive clash against Liverpool to prove if they could be late challengers for the title. Arsenal and Manchester City had been the focus at the top of the Premier League table for much of the season, but seven league wins from 10 games brought the Red Devils into the conversation.

In the 10 days prior to the clash, United had seen off Barcelona across two legs in the Europa League and won the Carabao Cup over Newcastle. However, Erik ten Hag's side failed their Liverpool test miserably losing 7-0 at Anfield to keep the gap between Arsenal and United at 14 points.

Arsenal supporters were quick to poke fun at United with several digs aimed at Gary Neville who has angered numerous fans with his opinions on the title race. In his latest verdict, provided on the Overlap, over who will bring home the silverware come May, the United legend said: "What normally happens is one team gets so close they realise they can’t win it and then they just go like that in the last two or three games.

"You lose two games and then all of a sudden someone else goes above you. I thought City would win the league and United would finish second two or three months ago. To be fair, I’m not going to change my mind on it. I still think City are going to win the league even though Arsenal, the closer it gets… but 14 games is still a long way to go. I still think United will finish second."

Neville tore into the United players, particularly Bruno Fernandes, during the Liverpool drubbing all while Jamie Carragher was sat beside him on commentary. The duo are well-known for their back-and-forth heated discussions on a number of footballing topics, usually contested on Monday Night Football, however according to Carragher there will be no debate this evening (Monday).

The former Liverpool defender took to social media to explain that Neville won't be appearing on the show, tweeting: "Gary Neville has cried off from MNF *three laughing face emojis*. What analysis do you want most *tongue out emoji*."

Liverpool beating Man United felt like the final game of the weekend but there is still one Premier League fixture of gameweek 26 to be played as Brentford and Fulham meet in a west London derby. With several hours usually allotted for the game, pundits are given plenty of time to discuss other trending topics.

Carragher therefore has listed four possible topics that would form their pre-game debate. Liverpool's rout over Manchester United, Arsenal's last-minute winner, Brighton's win and Brentford vs Fulham build-up are all named with the Liverpool victory understandably dominating the voting which may mean Neville missing the show is a good thing for him.

Neville has since responded to Carragher's tweet replying: "Behave yourself! Never meant to be on as you well know you *clown emoji*!. I will be relaxing looking forward to watching you eulogise over a team you’ve killed for 2 months.."
