Gary Neville convinced there is a 'problem brewing' behind the scenes at Arsenal

Gary Neville believes there is a “problem brewing” at Arsenal.

The Sky Sports pundit has questioned Mikel Arteta’s assertion that both David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale can regularly compete for the No.1 spot at the Emirates Stadium.

Summer signing Raya has largely been winning that battle this season, starting five of the Gunners’ eight Premier League games as well as both of their Champions League outings to date.

Ramsdale has admitted his international career rests on winning his place back at club level but Raya would appear to be Arteta’s undisputed No.1 as things stand.

Still, the Spanish international did not particularly impress during the 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Saturday evening. Raya was lobbed by Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross at Stamford Bridge and was almost caught out by Cole Palmer after a lax pass out from the back.

While Arteta has insisted the former Brentford stopper is not suffering from a lack of confidence, it has been a fairly inauspicious start to his Arsenal career.

Neville believes Ramsdale will only take being a back-up option for so long.

"I do feel there's a problem brewing here where Ramsdale is going to start knocking on the door saying, 'get me back in' and if [Arteta] doesn't, he's going to ask to leave,” he told Sky Sports.

"So even though it looks like there's competition for places in the goalkeeping positon, it won't last long this. The maximum this will last is a season because the goalkeeper who is not playing or is feeling hard done to will leave."
