Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher know exactly what 'underrated' Manchester United target Mason Mount will bring to Old Trafford should the Reds get his proposed transfer over the line this summer.
As reported by Manchester Evening News last month, United have agreed personal terms with Mount as the club aim to continue their rebuild under Erik ten Hag with at least two major signings. However, the Chelsea graduate is often a player who divides opinion over his output for club and country.
Naturally, given their affiliation with United and Liverpool respectively, Neville and Carragher seldom agree and TV exchanges between the duo on Sky Sports quite often make for box-office viewing. But their script when it comes to Mount is almost identical as speculation over his future continues to swirl.
Speaking about the 36-cap England international, Neville said: "Mason Mount is a coaches' player - and I think that's the best way to describe him. There've been many I've seen in my lifetime in football where they probably get more respect by the coaching staff for what they do than they do maybe by the fans that are watching them.

"[Maybe that's] Because their output in goals, or assists, or tackles or other things that are really noticeable maybe aren't as much as people would like. But what they do do is glue teams together, they fill in gaps, they know when to trigger presses and win the ball back and counter attack. I'm not surprised that Mason Mount is a target for many managers."
During an appearance on The Anfield Wrap, Carragher added: "Mason Mount is a funny one - in that people always seem a little bit down on him for whatever reason. I've never got it, I'm a huge fan. He's a Champions League winner. I really like him.
"He's got energy to press, he'd provide a greater goal threat from midfield than what we have in Jordan [Henderson] in that position right now. Every top manager who's been at Chelsea has picked him, he plays for England and I think the club have also got to be thinking about that homegrown situation."
Although the 24-year-old might not have enjoyed his best season at Chelsea - and under the current circumstances there it would have been impossible for him to do so - but as well as quietly going about his business the player has already done enough to convince Neville, Carragher and most-importantly Ten Hag he's the right fit and can glue his evolving United side together moving forward.
