Gary Mackay-Steven signs deal at Kilmarnock until the end of the season

Gary Mackay-Steven has signed a deal at Kilmarnock until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old, who has previously had spells at Hearts, New York City, Aberdeen, Celtic and Dundee United, penned a short-term contract at Rugby Park back in December before extending his stay in Ayrshire.

He left Tynecastle in the summer after providing eight goals and as many assists in 64 appearances.

A club statement read: "Kilmarnock FC are delighted to announce that Gary Mackay-Steven has extended his contract with the club.

"The winger featured four times for us during a busy festive period and has now penned a deal until the end of the season.

"The 33-year-old Scotland international has strengthened the squad during his month at the club so far and will continue to do so for the rest of the campaign.

"Keeping his No 39 jersey, Mackay-Steven links up with the squad ahead of next Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie with Dundee."

Meanwhile, Shaun Maloney has blasted Stephen Humphrys' loan at Hearts last year - as well as Jordan Jones' at Kilmarnock.

The former Hibernian boss insists both wingers at like new players since returning to Wigan Athletic this season.

The ex-Scotland international was speaking to ITV Sport prior to tonight's FA Cup clash between Wigan and Manchester United, which finished 2-0 to Erik ten Hag's men.

Humphrys scored five goals for the Jambos during his stint in Edinburgh. This included a stunner from inside his own half against Dundee United. Jones failed to make the desired impact for Derek McInnes' side as they just managed to secure survival in the top flight.

The pair started the match against the global footballing giants. And Maloney clearly thinks highly of them.

"We do have talent in the final third. We've got [Martial] Godo on loan from Fulham. And the two players, Humphrys and Jones, they had really bad loans last year and they've come back like new players.

"So we've got some talent in the final third and we're going to need it tonight."
