Gary Lucy's girlfriend thanks Saint for saving his life in car crash after freak find

Love Island star Laura Anderson has thanked a saint for keeping her boyfriend safe after he survived a horror car crash.

She credited St Joseph for saving Hollyoaks star Gary Lucy after the soap star, 41, was rushed to hospital after he miraculously lived through a Boxing Day crash which wrecked his Range Rover.

The actor shared pictures on Instagram of his car after the smash, which had been left a wreck, telling followers "Someone was watching over me today [100 per cent emoji]."

In another picture of black car, which had its destroyed engine on show and it's bonnet mangled, Gary, known for playing Will Fletcher in the soap, wrote: "Gary 9 lives [preying hands emoji]."

He also shared photos of himself in a hospital bed wearing a gown, and then in a brown suit wearing a leg brace on one limb and using crutches.

And now Laura has thanked a saint for sparing his life following the crash.

She took to her Instagram to share a snap of the saint card which Gary had been given by his gran.

Alongside the picture, she wrote: “We’re not religious but thank you St Joseph for saving my love.

“Gary’s gran gave him this, it had words about safety and protection on the other side. I pulled it out of his bag yesterday morning just before his accident.”

She went on to ask her followers: “Do you keep anything sentimental with you for protection?”

Despite the horror crash, Celebs Go Dating stars Gary and Laura managed to spend their first Christmas together as a couple.

He drove up to Scotland on Christmas Eve to spend the festive season with the telly star.

An excited Laura, 33, shared snippets from their time together as they enjoyed dinner at her parents’ house in Stirling.

And today Laura has posted more snaps of their festive fun as they spent time with more family and friends now that Gary is on the mend.

Laura posed in a red Christmas jumper dress which featured two puddings on the chest. She teamed the look with a red and white striped Santa hat and red boot slippers.

Other family members and dogs smiled around her while Gary wrapped his arms around their relatives in the background.

“Sad it’s over for another year,” Laura wrote on the snap on her Instagram Story.

Yesterday Laura posted a montage of Gary’s hellish day as his misfortune played out from crashing his car at 10am to leaving hospital in a leg brace and walking with crutches at 6pm.

A final image of Gary lying down with a dog sitting on his chest was captioned: "The exciting life of the Luce. Always keeping me on my toes", which a covered eyes emoji.

They were first spotted cosying up together in September before going from strength to strength after making their romance official a month later.

Speaking in an interview with OK!, Laura has opened up about her relationship with the 41-year-old dad-of-two and admitted she used to watch her partner when he starred in the drama Footballers' Wives in the early 2000s.

She said: "My mum fancies him! And my friends are obsessed. One of them messaged me the other day and she’s like, 'Can you believe we used to watch Footballers' Wives and you’re now dating Gary Lucy, how does that feel?'

"And I’m like, 'up!' I don’t think about it like that. But then I was looking at him on a date and I was like, 'It’s weird that I know your face. You’re like a celebrity.' It’s like you would recognise them anywhere because you’ve just seen them so much."

Laura added: "He makes me feel comfortable and he makes me feel quite adored and protected, which is really nice. He’s a gentleman."

Despite appearing on the E4 programme looking for love with various dates, Laura describes her time with the EastEnders star as "the happiest I've been in a long time".

Gary split from his wife Natasha Gray in 2018 after four years of marriage. He had been single until he met Laura, and wants to make sure he doesn't go back on the dating scene any time soon after his "mad experience" on the programme.

He told The Sun : "I've had an awful experience of dating again, it's a whole new world now and when you're busy, where do you meet people?

"I'm a 40-year-old man now and I think there are a lot of people of my age, older and some younger, that kind of go s***, where do you go from here, where do you meet people?"

"Where do you build a relationship, not meet people for a hook up, that was early 20s or late teens and I had no problems with that back then, I certainly had my cake and ate it."
