Gary Lineker sends Liverpool message after England humiliation

Pundit Gary Lineker has said that he wishes England played like Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool team after the national side lost 4-0 to Hungary at Wolves' Molineux stadium on Tuesday night.

Gareth Southgate's side were thoroughly outplayed from start to finish and capped off a very disappointing run of international fixtures to end the 2021/22 season. No Liverpool players were present during England's heavy defeat, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson both allowed to go home and rest after a long, arduous season at club level.

But those who did play looked tired and lethargic, with the Three Lions lacking a gameplan throughout. Failing to press from the front and easy to break down, it was the polar opposite to what Reds fans see week in week out at not only Anfield but whatever stadium Jurgen Klopp takes his side to.

Though some players were given the night off after four games in 11 days, others were forced to endure one final match before jetting off on their holidays and not only did Lineker take to social media to outline just how much football players have played over the past nine months, the ex-England international said that the Three Lions should look to emulate the current FA and Carabao Cup holders in terms of playstyle.

“I said previously that @EnglandFootball missed a trick by not resting all their important players so they’d be fresh for the World Cup.

“Would have also loved to have seen us adopt Liverpool’s way of playing. Would suit us perfectly. I also acknowledge, I’ve never been a coach.”
