Gary Lineker offers blunt Conor Gallagher red card verdict after Chelsea vs Leicester

Gary Lineker offers a blunt view on Conor Gallagher's red card incident and its impact as Chelsea edged past Leicester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

The game week four fixture started in the first 25 minutes with total Chelsea domination. The match threatened to swing the other way around the 30th-minute mark when a poor set-piece routine resulted in the former Crystal Palace loanee chopping down Harvey Barnes for a needless second yellow card. Unsurprisingly, his petulance didn't just go down in a bad way with manager Thomas Tuchel but also his football.london player rating was the lowest out of any of the whole squad who played their part in one way or another in this second win of the season.

'A short and erratic afternoon for the Cobham product. His partnership with Jorginho did look much improved compared to their outing versus Leeds, but Gallagher still appeared to be trying too hard in his play but produced some good tackles. His first booking was a little harsh, but his second was inevitable as he took down Jamie Vardy on the halfway line to prevent the Leicester forward from having a free run on goal.

Tuchel added his views post-match in his press conference: "Today is he is responsible for what he did. Of course, he knows it was a huge mistake. We spoke briefly after the game, and things like this can happen. It's not purely his fault alone because it's a set-piece for us, and it's sloppy how we take set-pieces at the moment.

"We lack belief and precision. We can speak it out clearly. It's not good enough how we take set-pieces at the moment, and on top of it, we give chances away. We are sloppy on the coverage and bad with the decision making how we cover the set pieces. We have to stop doing this and improve immediately. We are on it with the team, and I don't know why it happened again.

"At the end of this chain is a decision that brings such a huge disadvantage after 25 minutes. It's a very, very bad decision from Conor, and, of course, he is upset. Everybody was upset in this moment because it almost killed the whole football match."

Chelsea's number 23 has already come out to apologise to the supporters on social media, and the elements of his message equated to the regret that Jermaine Jenas stated will be lingering in the midfielder's thoughts as he now missed the midweek trip to Southampton.

Lineker, who was clearly annoyed to see his beloved Foxes stutter once more, made a blunt point to round up BBC Match of the Day's analysis of the game between the Blues and Brendan Rodgers' out of sought team.

"Got away with one," he said in regards to Gallagher's red card and the impact it had on the result.
