Gary Lineker mocks Nadine Dorries after woeful presenting stint on Piers Morgan show

Nadine Dorries has been mocked by Gary Lineker after her stint on Piers Morgan’s TV show ended in embarrassment.

The Tory MP and former culture secretary has been called in to guest-host Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV. Dorries made a shaky debut on Monday night on the Rupert Murdoch-owned network alongside the former editor of the Evening Standard, Emily Sheffield, and it didn’t get any better on Tuesday.

Morgan’s show has struggled for viewers since launching in April and, although Dorries brought eyeballs to the channel, they weren’t for the right reason. While trying to introduce the show, the Boris Johnson ally made an absolute mess of reading off an autocue, with her words so jumbled it is impossible to relay what she was trying to say.

“Sorry, I’ve just completely messed that up,” Dorries then said as Sheffield urged her to keep going. Obviously, the clip soon went viral on social media, prompting Match of the Day presenter Lineker to join the masses in sticking the boot in.

“Not as easy as you think,” Lineker tweeted alongside a wobbly mouth emoji. Unfortunately for Dorries, the clip has now been viewed over 1.6million times, meaning her chances of being invited back next time Morgan is on holiday are pretty slim.

“Oh boy. I think Nadine Dorries might actually be better at TV presenting than she is at politics,” radio host James O’Brien tweeted. “Ouch ouch ouch. Car crash,” added actor James Purefoy.

This is not the first time that Lineker has poked fun at Dorries. Back in June the former England striker had a pop at her for scoring an “own goal” when she launched a scathing attack on Jeremy Hunt.

“I try to avoid TV these days and I’m not one of the MPs you find running across to the cameras on the green or in and out of TV studios,” Dorries said before taking the job. “But I’m excited about TalkTV and the opportunity to do this during what could turn out to be one of the most eventful weeks we have ever known in British politics.”

Thankfully, Dorries stint has now come to an end. On Wednesday, TalkTV’s Kate McCann will be joined by The Sun’s political editor, Harry Cole. Sheffield will then be joined by the author and columnist Douglas Murray on Thursday.

Dorries has dropped out of the public eye somewhat in recent months following the collapse of Johnson’s government, but she remains loyal to the former Prime Minister. The MP for mid Bedfordshire attacked new PM Rishi Sunak this week, telling LBC that he has “no mandate whatsoever” to lead the country, while warning that “all hell will break loose”, with a general election now “impossible” to avoid.
