Gary Lineker dazzled by 'classic' Leeds United performance at Aston Villa

Leeds United's six-goal thriller with Aston Villa had pundits queuing up to declare that they just ‘love watching Leeds!’

A hectic opening period saw Marcelo Bielsa’s men take the lead inside nine minutes with a brilliant finish from Dan James.

However, Leeds' front-foot approach allowed Aston Villa to tear through the defence on three separate occasions in 13 first-half minutes as Phillipe Coutinho and a Jacob Ramsey brace turned the game on its head.

The drama continued to unfold as James bagged a scruffy second in stoppage time to pull the Whites back into the game just before the break.

Diego Llorente netted from close range on the hour mark to complete the comeback and earn the visitors a well-deserved draw.

Villa defender Ezri Konsa was sent off in stoppage time to put the cherry on top of a game that had a little bit of everything.

Gary Lineker reacted to a ‘bonkers’ first half on social media as the two sides put on an entertaining show at Villa Park.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also tweeted his admiration for how Leeds play football.

The Whites earned plaudits for their ultra-attacking style last season when they bagged 62 Premier League goals - more than Champions League winners Chelsea.

They have struggled to find the net as frequently this time around, largely due to star striker Patrick Bamford spending most of the campaign on the treatment table.

If James can continue to score goals from now until May it will go a long way to securing Leeds' top-flight status.
