Match of the Day Live presenter Gary Lineker has admitted he found the shocking porn noise prank that marred BBC's coverage of Liverpool vs Wolves 'funny'.
The embarrassing gaffe occured while presenter Lineker was trying to bring in colleague Alan Shearer for further analysis before kick-off. The host addressed the moment at the time as he told viewers: "I don't know who is making that noise but Alan Shearer is on the commentary gantry.
He went on to add: "It is toasty in this studio, it is noisy as well I am not sure if someone is sending something on somebody's phone."
The audio briefly stopped as Shearer replied, before swiftly starting again just as Lineker went to make another statement.
However, with the dust now settling on a moment that left him red-faced, Lineker has told Newsnight he can now see the funny side of the whole situation.
"If you told me this morning that tonight I’d be on Newsnight talking about a porn scandal I would have been terrified," the 62-year-old explained. "When it started, I did recognise that sound. I think we’ve all been done with that when you open up a WhatsApp or something.
HAVE YOUR SAY! Should the BBC have issued an apology for the pornographic audio airing live? Comment below
"It was so loud I couldn't hear anything that either Danny Murphy or even when I spoke to Alan Shearer. I could hardly hear what they said when the thing was going on." I have to say I think it's funny.
He went on to add that he doens't agree with the BBC 's decision to issue an apology for the explicit audio airing to millions, claiming: "The BBC have issued some sort of apology, I know not why. It's certainly got nothing to apologise for.
"It was quite hard to carry on the pre-match build-up and take it seriously when this was going on in the background.
"It added to the whole game actually. I don’t think anyone cared for the game. We had a screamer of a goal which was kind of the tone of the whole show in some ways. As pranks go, it was a good one and credit to them. It was funny I thought."
The culprit of the prank has since been revealed as a YouTuber who boasts the account name Jarvo69 aka BMWJarvo and streamed the stunt live.
"Here we are," introduced the prankster on-camera to his millions of viewers. "We have set up a phone with a loud sex noise in the BBC studio at the Wolves vs Liverpool FA Cup replay."
The BBC kept their apology short and sweet as they released a statement that read: "We apologise to any viewers offended during the live coverage of the football this evening. We are investigating how this happened."
