Gary Lineker blasted by ‘blocked’ boxer Carl Froch after migrants policy comment

Nottingham boxing hero Carl Froch has blasted Gary Lineker after the Match of the Day host compared the Government’s plan to clamp down on migrants crossing the Channel in small boats to Nazi Germany.

The proposal would see refugees arriving in the UK by small boats banned from claiming asylum or using human rights law to stop their removal.

On Tuesday, March 7, Lineker commented on a Twitter video put out by Home Secretary Suella Braverman, in which she explained the policy. “Good heavens, this is beyond awful,” wrote Lineker. Responding to the sports broadcaster, another Twitter user described his comment as “out of order”, adding that it was “easy to pontificate when it doesn’t affect you”.

Lineker's responded: “There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?”

Lineker comments have been widely condemned but the former Tottenham and Leicester City striker is refusing to back down and, as of this evening, the tweet remains on his page.

Among those to criticise the 62-year-old is former world super-middleweight champion Froch, who has taken to the social media platform to share his thoughts on Lineker.

Froch tweeted: “Last thought of the day before I get some sleep. @GaryLineker is an absolute moron. He won’t see this because he blocked me years ago, so do me a favour and share it. Thanks & good night.”
