Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand agree on why Arsenal should seal £75m Alexander Isak transfer

Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand have both told Arsenal exactly why they should trigger Alexander Isak's £75million release clause at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Real Sociedad last summer, but that contract is understood to have a £75million clause included - meaning the Gunners could look to secure his signature at the end of the current campaign.

Isak's stock has risen over the past 12 months or so following a very impressive European Championships campaign with Sweden, where Arsenal were first registered with an interest in the Sociedad star.

football.london understands that Isak, as well as Lille striker Jonathan David, are both options Arsenal are exploring ahead of the summer transfer window after the north Londoners missed out on new Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic.

Lineker and Ferdinand agree on Isak

Lineker, when taking to his official Twitter page during last summer's Euros, hailed Isak as an "exceptional talent".

He wrote: "I do not think there is any doubt that Alexander Isak will attract interest from clubs around Europe. Exceptional talent."

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand is also a big admirer of the Swede, with the pundit heaping praise on the young striker.

Speaking on BBC's coverage of the Euros, as quoted by HITC, Ferdinand said: "He was a nuisance. He showed today why he has got Young Player of the Year in La Liga. He was the outlet."

Isak's stance on Premier League move

Speaking in November 2021, Isak opened the door to a move to England one day, admitting it would be "nice" to play in the Premier League further on in his career.

Speaking to The Independent, the Swede said: "I am in a good place at the moment, I am very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well.

"They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it is a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative. Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest possible level.

"I have expectations for myself that I’m trying to fulfil, so we’ll see where the journey takes me in future."
