Gary Busey charged with alleged sex offences at New Jersey convention

Actor Gary Busey has been charged with sexual offenses following a New Jersey fan convention earlier this month, local police have said.

Busey, 78, was charged on Friday with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, one count of attempted criminal sexual contact and one count of harassment, Cherry Hill police said.

The charges are alleged to have occured at the annual Monster Mania Convention at the Doubletree Hotel on August 12 to 14 in Cherry Hill, a Philadelphia suburb, police said.

Busey, who lives in Malibu, California, was scheduled as a featured guest for all three days of the event.

Alhough the police did not name the actor in its statement, a police source told told Fox29 that three women had reported that the actor had allegedly touched them inappropriately during an autograph signing and meet and greet.

Multiple other US news outlets have also confirmed the details of the report. Cherry Hill police said the investigation was continuing and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Pictures posted to social media showed the Under Siege actor mingling with fans at the convention, which celebrates horror films and memorabilia.

Busey’s representatives have been contacted for comment.

Busey is widely known as a character actor, largely in supporting roles, though he came to attention and was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for playing the title role in the 1978 film “The Buddy Holly Story.”

In 1988, he suffered a serious brain injury in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles, undergoing emergency neurosurgery and spending months in a rehabilitation clinic.

He has also appeared in reality TV shows including Celebrity Apprentice and won the British version of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014.
