Gary Barlow's royal wine gift

Gary Barlow was given wine by King Charles

Gary Barlow's "most expensive" wine was a gift from King Charles.

The Take That singer is often given bottles of booze from friends and though he has most stored in his cellar at home, the tipple he was given as a thank you present from the 75-year-old monarch in recognition of organising Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee concert in 2012, is proudly on display.

Speaking to Jessie and Lennie Ware on their 'Table Manners' podcast, Gary said: "Most of my cellar is actually wine that people have bought for me. It's got to the point where I write on the side who it's from.

"I think the most expensive bottle of wine I own is a Pauillac. And I do believe, I'm gonna name drop, I'm afraid.

“The King gave it me. Around the Diamond Jubilee.”

“I organised the concert for that. So he, yeah, I got it sort of a couple of days later with a little telegram and yeah I haven't touched that. It's actually not even in the cellar that it's upstairs in the house”

The 53-year-old singer launched his own wine range three years ago and he's amazed at how successful the brand has been as it was initially conceived to be a small run of product that he could give to friends as gifts.

He said: "So basically, it's complete accident, this whole thing, because we're in lockdown, and I've been talking to my manager, said you know what, you know how long I've been into wine, I love it, I love it, wouldn't it be great if I had a bottle with my name on the side?

“And I was thinking like 50, 70 bottles a year. Giving it out to your mates at Christmas, a couple of dinner parties.

"I cannot tell you how much wine has gone out in the supermarkets. We have sold so much wine.

"And it's cheap, and it's good, I know where it's from, I know the people who make it. I've learnt a lot. It's been a brilliant journey.”
