While earlier this week it was announced by the team that QB Deshaun Watson would be joined by some starters for tonight’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Cleveland Browns do not expect a long list of players to play tonight.
A few will miss the game due to injury:
- CB Denzel Ward (foot)
- WR Michael Woods II (hamstring)
- DT Sheldon Day (back)
- CB Shaun Jolly (groin)
Another large group of players are just not expected to play including a couple of big acquisitions this offseason:
- WR Amari Cooper
- QB Jacoby Brissett
- RB Nick Chubb
- RB Kareem Hunt
- OL Joel Bitonio
- DE Myles Garrett
- DE Jadeveon Clowney
- CB Greg Newsome II
- LB Anthony Walker Jr.
- S John Johnson III
Cooper and Brissett will have to wait for their debuts with the team until at least Week 2. At quarterback, that means Watson, Josh Dobbs and Josh Rosen will get a lot of time tonight.
With a banged-up receiver group, Cleveland can ill afford to have Cooper get hurt so sitting him makes a ton of sense. As a second-year player, Newsome not playing is a slight surprise.
