Garner stars as North press AFLW claims

North Melbourne have continued their climb up the AFLW ladder after a 19-point win over Richmond. (AAP)

Jasmine Garner has continued her red-hot form to help extend North Melbourne's AFLW winning streak to four matches with a 19-point victory over Richmond.

The Kangaroos responded to every challenge from their plucky opponents, who stayed in Saturday's contest throughout the first half despite missing a host of key players through injury.

Garner finished with 26 disposals, five tackles and a goal in her side's 5.7 (37) to 2.6 (18) triumph at Punt Road Oval, playing a key role as the visitors broke the game open late in the third quarter.

The 27-year-old also had nine inside-50s and six marks, while Ashleigh Riddell (29 disposals) and Emma Kearney (21) were also outstanding.

The comfortable win continued North Melbourne's climb up the ladder as they chase their first AFLW premiership this season.

The Tigers are headed in the opposite direction, having lost five straight games since their victory over lowly St Kilda in the season opener.

It was a bright start from the heavily favoured Kangaroos with a handy breeze at their backs.

Their territorial dominance would have led to a greater quarter-time margin than seven points if not for the staunch defensive efforts of Tigers duo Rebecca Miller, Gabrielle Seymour and Sarah D'Arcy.

Emelia Yassir kicked Richmond's first goal midway through the second term before goals against the breeze to Mia King and Garner gave North Melbourne breathing space heading into the main break.

Tigers captain Katie Brennan wobbled through a set shot to open the scoring in the second half, trimming the margin to less than a kick.

But Sophie Abbatangelo and Daria Bannister booted steadying goals for the Kangaroos, who took a 20-point lead into the final term.

Richmond peppered the goals early in the last quarter but wasted several chances drag themselves back into the contest.

The Kangaroos' dominance of general play was highlighted in the lopsided inside-50 count (43-18).

North Melbourne suffered a brief scare when Daisy Bateman suffered an ankle injury, but she was assessed and returned to action.

Star midfielder Monique Conti had 25 disposals in another superb display for Richmond.
