Gareth Southgate told how to use Arsenal's Bukayo Saka in World Cup as Man City star backed

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has been backed to start for England in the Qatar World Cup by Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher.

Saka has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2022/23 season with the Gunners with five goals and six assists to help steer Mikel Arteta's side to the top of the Premier League. The 22-year-old has been the match-winner in two tight contests against Liverpool and Leeds United this term but has failed to find the back of the net since October 16.

The Hale End academy product will jet off to the Middle East with the rest of his England team-mates looking to lead the nation to international glory for the first time since 1966. It's the first major tournament Saka and the Three Lions have found themselves in since the heart-break at Wembley against Italy - where Saka missed the decisive penalty.

Ahead of England's first game next Monday (November 21) against Iran, Sky Sports' Karen Carney, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp previewed the upcoming tournament following the final Super Sunday of the year.

In the show, they discussed their starting XI, Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad selection and how they reckon the Three Lions will get on in Qatar. And after insisting Mason Mount must start in midfield, Carragher called for the Gunners attacker to start on the right of Southgate's front three with Harry Kane and Phil Foden.

"I just think, I love (Raheem) Sterling and think he was England's best player at the Euros, this season's form hasn't been great and in an England shirt of late," he said.

"I think Saka's been playing that well in that position. It was one or the other (Foden or Sterling) because I prefer Raheem on the left. It was always going to be Saka on the right and then Sterling or Foden. But Foden, how he's played, I thought I'd start with him."
