Gareth Bale's agent breaks silence on Getafe transfer rumours amid Tottenham and Cardiff links

Gareth Bale's agent Joshua Barnett has broken his silence on his client's future and has only increased the chances of the Welshman either moving to Tottenham or Cardiff City in the next few months.

It comes after the Welshman announced his departure from Real Madrid at the end of his contract this summer. It puts an end to a nine-year stay at the Bernabeu, having made the move there from Spurs in 2013 for around £90million. In that time, he won 19 trophies, though relations with the fans grew sour towards the end. However, that isn’t so much the case back in north London, where he is still fondly thought of, and even enjoyed a second spell on loan under Jose Mourinho. The 32-year-old was recently awarded an MBE, to which the club tweeted: “Congratulations on an incredible achievement." A message of support, even after all those years.

The winger now faces a dilemma over the future of his career, where he currently stands at a crossroads. With Wales officially qualifying for the Qatar 2022 World Cup this winter, Bale may have to find another club to be able to keep fit in preparation. In an extraordinary turn of events, La Liga minnows Getafe have been suggested as a viable destination for the Welsh international but Barnett has dismissed these rumours.

“I don’t even have the president of Getafe’s number," his agent told transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

So what's next for Bale? Well, with Steven Bergwijn likely to depart this summer amid strong Ajax return rumours, Antonio Conte and more specifically Fabio Paratici could put the Lilywhites firmly in the window to secure the free signing of a player who has many options on the table ahead of the latest transfer season opening on June 10.

football.london understands that while Tottenham's managing director of football Paratici is a big fan of Bale there is a feeling both within the Welshman's camp and inside Spurs that another return to the club is unlikely at this point.

Does this put the Bluebirds as favourites now to secure the double signing of Aaron Ramsey and Bale for the 2022/23 EFL Championship season? We will soon find out in due course but Getafe are certainly the first to fall out of this race.
