Gareth Bale hooked at half-time in Wales' crucial World Cup match with England

Gareth Bale was substituted at half-time during Wales' crucial World Cup clash with England.

The skipper was hooked at the break with the scoreline at 0-0, but England scored twice in a nightmare 60 seconds for the men in red.

Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson was the man manager Rob Page turned to to replace Bale, who failed to make an impact against Gareth Southgate's men, who were utterly dominant over the first 45 minutes. It was always going to be a stretch for Bale to play three times in a week and so it proved.

Wales are currently crashing out of the tournament, with the USA also beating Iran 1-0.

Bale's substitution will raise questions again over the 33-year-old's future in Wales shirt; he emphasised prior to the game that this would not be the final time supporters saw him in the red shirt of his country.

But with Wales on the brink of World Cup elimination, this could be the end of an era.
