Gareth Bale finally answers retirement question after BBC One interview walkout

Gareth Bale insists he intends to keep playing for Wales after his clearest indication he will not retire this summer.

Wales record scorer and captain Bale sparked a frenzy over his future last month when he said: "I know what I'm doing, but it'll just cause chaos if I say anything."

Bale then further fuelled doubts after Wales' 4-0 Euros exit to Denmark when he stormed off from a BBC interview.

Bale, who turns 32 in July, walked off camera when asked if it was his last game for his country.

But Bale, who has 33 goals in 96 games for Wales, has since clarified his intentions.

Bale, under contract at Real Madrid until June 2022, told Welsh channel S4C: “I want to continue to play.

“People ask stupid questions all the time.

“But obviously I love playing for Wales.

“I will play for Wales until the day I stop playing football.”

Bale now looks set to line up for Wales again in September in their World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Estonia.

They already have three points after beating the Czech Republic in Cardiff having lost their opener in Belgium.

Bale added: “We have just started the World Cup campaign.

“I think we can qualify for the next World Cup.”

Wales defender Chris Mepham, who made his international debut in 2018, added: "As soon as I came into the Wales squad I saw how passionate Gaz was about pulling a Wales shirt on.

“I know it is a massive part of his football and of his life.

“Everytime he comes away he seems to be enjoying it.

“I would expect to see him at many more camps.”

Bale was loaned to Spurs last season after being frozen out by Real boss Zinedine Zidane.

But Zidane has since been replaced at the Spanish giants by Carlo Ancelotti, who has returned for a second stint in charge.

Bale won the first of his four Champions League crowns under the Italian coach.

The star could now be given a chance in pre-season to show he can be part of Ancelotti's squad.
