A gardener working on a vacant property in Adelaide's northern suburbs has found human remains.
Police confirm the worker was clearing long grass when the discovery was made just before 2pm at Salisbury South on Cheviot road.
Emergency services were alerted to the vacant block and Major Crime detectives have cordoned off the area.
Detective Inspector Brett Featherby said that forensics officers would examine the human remains.
"The remains are so decomposed that we currently cannot tell the sex or age of the deceased, or how long they've been in this location," Inspector Featherby said.
"We will require forensic testing to identify the person who was located today.
"The circumstances around the identification of the person are suspicious; major crime will be taking carriage of this investigation.
"The paddock was last mowed back in March of this year. Prior to that occurring today, the grass was about a metre high."
Police are now calling on the public for any information.
"Any member of the public that may have seen someone acting suspicious around Salisbury South, in the proceeding months, please contact police or crime stoppers," Inspector Featherby said.
"There may be members of the public who have moved through here."
