Gardaí treating discovery of man's body in Westmeath as 'suspicious' and have definite line of inquiry

Gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry following the discovery of a man's body in rural Co Westmeath.

The dead man, in his 60s, was found at a house at Rattin, near Milltownpass, Westmeath after 6pm yesterday evening.

His remains are still at the scene this morning as the Garda Technical Bureau continue their examination. Once it is completed, the body will be removed for a post mortem.

Gardai say the results of the post mortem will determine the course of their investigation.

The Irish Mirror understands that gardai are treating the discovery as suspicious and are following a definite line of inquiry.

The man who died is understood to be originally from abroad but has been living in Ireland for a number of years.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí at Mullingar have commenced and investigation following the discovery of a body in unexplained circumstances in County Westmeath on the 25th of October, 2022.

"Shortly after 6pm on Tuesday, the body man in his 60s was discovered by Gardaí in a house at Rattin near Milltownpass. He was pronounced dead at the scene short time later.

"The Office of the State Pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau have been requested to assist in the investigation. The local Coroner has also been notified.

"The outcome of a post-mortem examination will in determine the course of the investigation.

"No additional information is available at this time."
