Gardai have issued a reminder to the public about a lesser known rule about the road after stopping a vehicle in Dublin recently.
One motorist was driving through Tallaght when they were flagged down by officers.
However, the issue wasn't with their driving or taxes/insurance - it was with the front of their car.
A Garda spokesperson explained: "Dublin Metropolitan Region South Road Policing Unit stopped this car in Tallaght for excessive front window tinting.
"The front windows and windscreen must let 65% light pass through them. When tested, this car's windows only let 23% light through
"The driver was instructed to remove the tints and summons to follow."
Under the Irish road traffic regulations, the driver must always have a view to the front and side of the vehicle necessary to enable them to drive safely.
Heavily tinted windows present a significant safety hazard for vehicle drivers and their occupants.
If a vehicle is found to have excessively tinted windows, both the owner and driver can be charged, as this motorist found out.
Meanwhile, Gardai made a concerning discovery when they stopped a motorist in Co Laois on Monday.
The road user was spotted by officers on patrol in Portlaoise using their mobile phone while driving.
When stopped, members of the force found not only was the driver disqualified, but that the motorist was also in possession of a dangerous knife.
Gardai arrested the individual and they will now face court proceedings. Their vehicle was also seized.
