Gardai slam 'driver hardly fit to walk' who fled scene of serious bank holiday crash

Gardai have slammed a driver who was "hardly fit to walk" but managed to flee the scene of a crash in Cavan on Friday night.

Pictures show a parked car after being smashed by a black car in the Cootehill area.

Officers said that eyewitnesses reported the driver was barely able to walk but was able to get away from the scene.

Gardai are now hunting for the motorist involved in the late night collision.

A spokesperson said: "Another timely reminder for St.Patrick's Bank Holiday weekend. This was a scene in Cootehill last night when the red stationary car was struck by the offending black car. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the driver and witnesses suggest that the driver was hardly fit to walk. Unfortunately he did as he left the scene.

"Luckily there were no pedestrians in the vicinity and nobody was injured. Just another example of the lack of responsibility of some roadusers."
