Gardai were last night quizzing a killer and close associate of Kinahan mobster “Fat” Freddie Thompson over a gangland-style shooting.
The suspect, who is in his early 20s, was arrested late on Monday night over a daylight attack in South Dublin last month.
The man, who has already served prison time for a killing, has been identified as the person who fired shots at two men in a car on January 19.
Gardai rushed to the scene of the incident at Margaret Kennedy Road after multiple shots were fired at a vehicle at around 11.45am.
Nobody was injured in the attack, but sources said detectives fear it is a clear sign the Thompson associate is trying to flex his muscles in the area.
One source added last night: “He thinks he is the main man now.
“He has been causing havoc for the last few months. He is stepping on a lot of toes.”
It is understood gardai obtained CCTV footage from the incident and they have already arrested another man, suspected of being the gunman’s driver.
Thompson, 40, is serving life in prison for his role in the brutal gangland murder of Daithi Douglas in Dublin’s inner city in July 2016.
