Gardai probing whether Dublin mum and baby died due to drug exposure

Gardai investigating the death of a mum and baby in west Dublin are probing the theory that they died from exposure to a drug.

Gardai discovered the remains of Kate Donohoe and her 11-month-old baby Vincent in the upstairs bedroom of their home in Beechwood estate in Clonee, Dublin 15 on Saturday afternoon by gardai and the emergency services. Gardai were alerted after a friend of Ms Donohoe’s became concerned they could not get in touch with her in the 24 hours prior to their bodies being discovered.

There was nobody else in the property and gardai say they are treating the matter as a ‘personal tragedy.’ A note discovered at the scene is a major focus of the investigation into the suspected murder/suicide.

Now, gardai are probing whether the death of Kate and her infant son are due to a drug. Meanwhile, heartbroken friends and the shocked community where Kate and Vincent lived gathered yesterday evening outside Chapel of Ease in Clonee in memory of the tragic mum and son.

In a post on social media, a local person invited the community to come together writing: “Everyone is welcome to come along to light a candle and join the community of Clonee as we hold a minute's silence.” Those in attendance were encouraged to wear Kate’s favourite colour yellow.

Meanwhile tributes continue to pour in for Kate - who was well known in the canine community as a groomer and dog re-homer and baby Vincent. Little Lodgers Boutique Boarding Kennels and Doggy Daycare Service wrote on social media:

“We’re very saddened to learn of the passing of Kate and her baby son Vincent. Kate worked tirelessly with many rescues throughout Ireland, saving abandoned, abused and neglected dogs. Kate had a special place in her heart for Sighthounds,” while Great Hounds in Need wrote: “Kate was very involved with the Sighthounds community, a kind and caring person who supported many rescues including ourselves all over Ireland. Deepest condolences and thoughts are with Kate’s family.”

Funeral arrangements for Kate and baby Vincent have not yet been announced.
