Jailed mob boss Thomas “Bomber” Kavanagh has become the focus of a major Garda investigation.
Gardai are probing his suspected role as the alleged criminal mastermind behind an arsenal of guns that were discovered in a West Dublin warehouse in 2017 – that saw associate Declan Brady jailed last year.
It had been thought that the Garda probe into the discovery of the 15 firearms and 4,000 rounds of ammunition ended with the conviction of Brady, who was considered to be a high-level member of the Kinahan cartel.

But we can reveal that the investigation remains active – and gardai have now fixed their focus onto Kavanagh’s suspected direct role in the operation.
It comes as the National Crime Agency, which saw through the conviction of Kavanagh for conspiracy to import €36million worth of drugs, stated that the firearms find was a key breakthrough as documents were also uncovered that ultimately nailed Kavanagh.
The documents contained names of transport companies, logistic firms and the locations of Kavanagh’s associates’ industrial units which ultimately led to the seizing of a Dover drugs haul linked back to Kavanagh.
