Gardai have been praised after a lovely gesture towards a visiting American tourist who was on a memorabilia hunt.
Members of the force in Kilkenny were caught out by the request when a retired cop from Illinois called into the station recently.
Ron Walters was on the lookout for a handover of sorts.
A spokesperson for the Kilkenny Gardai explained: "Meet Ron, retired Lake County Deputy from Illinois.
"Ron dropped in to say hi and exchange badges."
Ron had brought with him a badge and pin from the Lake County, a district he served for over three decades before retiring earlier this year.
By the looks of things, he's on a bit of a mission to get a badge from various police departments all around the globe.
But on this occasion, there was a bit of an issue - meaning Gardai had to adapt.
The spokesperson continued: "Unfortunately we had no badges handy so Sergeant Lydia Burke gave him a tie pin belonging to Garda Hogan (sorry Stephen).
"We hope you enjoy your trip and thank you for your 30 years service to law enforcement."
The public went on to praise gardai for the lovely gesture.
