Gardai make second arrest as probe continues into serious assault in Wicklow

Gardai have made a second arrest in their probe into a serious assault of a man in Arklow earlier this month.

The injured victim of the horror incident two weeks ago remains in Beaumont Hospital in a critical condition.

At approximately 2:30 am on August 2, Gardaí were alerted to an assault that occurred at a property in the Ashfield estate off the Emoclew road in Arklow.

A man in his 40’s was discovered with wounds to his head.

He was later taken to St Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for his injuries before being later transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

A Garda spokesperson said: "The second arrested man, aged in his late 20s, is currently detained in Wicklow Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"The man, aged in his 40s, who was arrested this morning remains detained in Bray Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at this time.

"Investigations are ongoing."
