Gardai launch witness appeal after Kildare crash leaves four people hospitalised with two in critical condition

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after four people were rushed to hospital following a two vehicle collision in Kildare, with two of them in critical condition.

The crash occurred on the Sallins Bypass in Co Kildare late last night at approximately 11:15pm. The two men of the first vehicle, one in his mid 40s and the other in his mid 70s, were rushed to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin where they remain in critical condition.

The man and the woman of the second vehicle, both aged in their late 20s, were removed from the scene to Tallaght University Hospital and remain in "serious but stable condition".

Gardai have said the road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision investigators are conducting an examination of the scene at present and investigations are ongoing.

A spokeswoman for An Garda Siochana said: "Gardai in Clane are currently at scene of a serious injury road traffic collision that occurred on the Sallins Bypass, Castlesize, Sallins, Co Kildare late last night Saturday June 10 at approximately 11:15pm.

"A two vehicle collision occurred and both males (mid 40s and mid 70s), of the first vehicle were removed from the scene to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin where they remain in critical condition. The male and female, both aged in their late 20s of the second vehicle, were removed from the scene to The Tallaght University Hospital and remain in serious but stable condition.

"The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision investigators are conducting an examination of the scene at present.

"Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. They are also appealing to road users who were travelling on the Sallins Bypass between 11pm and 11:30pm with camera footage (including dash cam), to make it available to them.

"Anyone with any information can contact Clane Garda Station on 045 868 262, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station. Investigations ongoing."
