A man was left in hospital after a vicious assault on Saturday evening in Dublin city centre.
The incident occurred on the first night since restrictions on the hospitality industry were lifted, including the 8pm curfew.
Thousands of people celebrated across the nation, but one man had his night ended in a sore fashion after the assault in the capital.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Irish Mirror that a probe had been launched into the incident:
He said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged incident of assault on Trinity Street, Dublin 2, Saturday night, 22nd January 2022.
"A man aged in his 20s was taken to St James Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. No arrests have been made at this time. This investigation is ongoing."
