Gardai launch investigation after body of man found in Westmeath in 'unexplained circumstances'

Gardai have launched an investigation after the body of a man was found in “unexplained circumstances” in Westmeath.

According to a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana, the body was discovered just after 6pm on Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and it has since been confirmed that he was in his 60s.

The Office of the State Pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau have been requested to assist in the investigation. A post-mortem is due to take place and will in determine the course of the investigation.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí at Mullingar have commenced an investigation following the discovery of a body in unexplained circumstances in County Westmeath on the 25th of October, 2022.

“Shortly after 6pm, the body man in his 60s was discovered by Gardaí in a house at Rattin near Milltownpass. He was pronounced dead at the scene short time later.

“The Office of the State Pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau have been requested to assist in the investigation. The local Coroner has also been notified.

“The outcome of a post-mortem examination will in determine the course of the investigation.

“No additional information is available at this time. Further updates will follow.”
