Gardai issue dashcam appeal after pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Galway

Gardai are renewing their appeal for information and witnesses after a man was hit by a car and killed on Sunday, February 19.

The incident occurred just before 6:30 am on the N84 at Carrowbrowne on Headford Road in Galway.

Officers rushed to the scene where a man in his 30s was left critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital by paramedics but was later pronounced dead.

Today, road users who may have been in the area at the time of the accident are asked to come forward with whatever information or dashcam footage they may have.

They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have been travelling in either direction on the N84, Headford Road, near Carrowbrowne between 5.30 am and 06.30 am on Sunday, and who may have seen or noticed anything on the road at this time.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

A statement released this morning read: “Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision in County Galway on Sunday the 19th of February 2023.

“Shortly before 6:30 am, Gardaí were alerted to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the N84 at Carrowbrowne on Headford Road in Galway.

“The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, later died from his injuries.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

“Road users with camera footage (including dash cam) travelling in the area at the time are asked to make it available to investigate Gardaí.

“In particular, any person that may have been travelling in either direction on the N84, Headford Road, near Carrowbrowne between 5.30 am and 06.30 am on Sunday, 19th February 2023, and who may have seen or noticed anything on the road at this time”.
